Airborne eDNA Reflects Human Activity and Seasonal Changes on a Landscape Scale

چکیده
Recent research on environmental DNA (eDNA), genetic material shed by organisms into their environment that can be used for sensitive and species-specific detection, has focused the ability to collect airborne eDNA released plants carried wind use in terrestrial plant populations, including detection of invasive endangered species. Another possible application is detect changes communities response activity or a landscape-scale. Therefore, goal this study was demonstrate how honey mesquite, blue grama, general human We monitored before, during, after rangeland restoration effort included mesquite removal. As expected, resulted massive increase eDNA. However, we also observed abundance from grass genus Bouteloua , which not directly associated with project, attribute these both seasonal trends. Overall, first time landscape-scale tracked using collection, suggest potential help monitor assess ecological projects, track due global warming, investigate community encroachment species extirpation threatened

Human activity impact on the heterogeneity of a Mediterranean landscape
The Mediterranean area is one of the most significantly altered hotspots on Earth, since it has been intensively affected by human activity for millennia. As a result, only 4.7% of its primary vegetation remained unaltered and the landscape has been repeatedly transformed. In this paper, we aimed at detecting both the direction and the rate of landscape change focusing on the effects of human a...
متن کاملEnvironmental DNA (eDNA) Detection Probability Is Influenced by Seasonal Activity of Organisms
Environmental DNA (eDNA) holds great promise for conservation applications like the monitoring of invasive or imperiled species, yet this emerging technique requires ongoing testing in order to determine the contexts over which it is effective. For example, little research to date has evaluated how seasonality of organism behavior or activity may influence detection probability of eDNA. We appl...
متن کاملSeasonal changes in human body fluids.
It is well-known that the blood properties change with seasons, and especially many reports in respect to change in water content have been made. For example, Kuroda (1) reported that the water content in blood increases in summer, while it decreases in winter. The fact can be explained by the view of Bazett (2), Sjostrand (3), Yoshimura and others (4) that the circulating blood volume, especia...
متن کاملUsing Satellite and Airborne LiDAR to Model Woodpecker Habitat Occupancy at the Landscape Scale
Incorporating vertical vegetation structure into models of animal distributions can improve understanding of the patterns and processes governing habitat selection. LiDAR can provide such structural information, but these data are typically collected via aircraft and thus are limited in spatial extent. Our objective was to explore the utility of satellite-based LiDAR data from the Geoscience La...
متن کاملConservation biological control and enemy diversity on a landscape scale
Conservation biological control in agroecosystems requires a landscape management perspective, because most arthropod species experience their habitat at spatial scales beyond the plot level, and there is spillover of natural enemies across the crop–noncrop interface. The species pool in the surrounding landscape and the distance of crop from natural habitat are important for the conservation o...
